Department of Justice Files Suits Against California and Virginia Over Unconstitutional Gun Restrictions

Just days before America’s 250th anniversary celebration of independence, the Department of Justice has launched legal challenges against two states for their gun restrictions.

On Wednesday, the DOJ sued California over its Glock-brand firearms ban and Virginia over its semi-automatic-weapon ban. Both states are governed by Democrats who have increasingly expanded firearm regulations under criticism from constitutional advocates.

A federal official stated: “On April 10, I promised Governor Spanberger that we would sue Virginia if she signed this unconstitutional weapons ban into law. I keep my promises.”

The lawsuit against California addresses two specific issues: first, the state’s prohibition of Glock-brand firearms—a popular choice among gun owners—and second, the legality of California’s “Gun Roster,” which lists permitted and prohibited pistols.
