A Pennsylvania state lawmaker defended his American flag jacket after security guards instructed him to remove it or leave the chamber.
State Rep. Eric Davanzo, a Republican, walked onto the House floor on Tuesday wearing his “patriotic” coat and tie. He described how most people at the state House loved the garment before being told by House Speaker Joanna McClinton to take it off.
“Instead of coming out here and doing the people’s work, no,” Davanzo said in a video provided by his office. “What are we focused on? We’re focused on bullshit issues like this jacket, right?”
Davanzo stated that supporters approached him afterward, giving him hugs and shaking his hands. McClinton objected to the jacket and tie, stating they were not something he would wear every day. Davanzo responded: “I’m like, listen, I would wear this back home, and I’m going to wear it again.”
