Trump’s ‘No Tax on Tips’ Policy Faces Democratic Criticism

The “No Tax on Tips” policy, a key component of President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign platform, has drawn criticism from some Democrats despite its widespread support. The provision was included in Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which passed Congress along party lines in July.

A Democratic spokesperson for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee described the policy as “temporary crumbs” for working families, noting that millions of Americans face potential loss of healthcare, hospital closures, and job risks due to tax cuts for billionaires. However, not all Democrats opposed the policy. Rep. Steven Horsford (D-NV), who represents a state where many workers rely on tips, criticized the Republican approach, stating, “The Republicans got their bill wrong from the beginning.”

The National Republican Congressional Committee argued that efforts by some “out-of-touch” Democrats to reclaim the idea of eliminating tax on tips indicate the policy’s popularity. A spokesperson for the NRCC claimed, “Nevadans know who put more money back in their pockets, and it wasn’t the Democrat frauds who are trying to claim credit.”
