Republican candidate Mike Rogers has launched a heavy rhetorical attack against Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed in their high-profile battle for one of Michigan’s Senate seats, citing multiple instances where El-Sayed’s remarks have been widely criticized as sexually inappropriate.
The political ad features several clips from the campaign that drew significant online ridicule. It opens with Laura Ingraham stating: “We’ve decided he’s just weird!”
One clip shows El-Sayed joking: “She’s like, ‘Damn I have to sleep with him.’ … I mean, I guess she’s pregnant, so I guess something’s happening.” Another segment includes El-Sayed asking about circumcision in a debate with Jesse Watters regarding sex-rejection surgeries for minors. The ad also contains a clip where El-Sayed speculates on the thoughts of Vice President JD Vance’s wife, Usha: “What do you think is going through Usha’s head when he talks?”
El-Sayed has been criticized for his Instagram activity, with reports that nearly every third video on his account features OnlyFans models. The text notes that the Instagram algorithm may have directed him to such content. In a closing remark, Jesse Watters stated: “Abdul, Michigan’s not going for that.” Rogers previously tweeted: “Conman Abdul El-Sayed — too extreme, and too weird for Michigan.”
El-Sayed, who is the first Muslim nominated for a U.S. Senate seat, has his November victory critical for Democrats’ hopes of retaking the Senate.
