Christian Castro, 52, has been indicted on six federal counts of making materially false statements to investigators.
The incident occurred during an immigration operation in Minnesota this year when an unnamed federal immigration officer reportedly fired a defensive shot while pursuing individuals.
According to his attorney, David Lindenmuth, the client was unfairly targeted by “rabid” officials who sought to blame him for high-profile deaths associated with Operation Metro Surge.
Lindenmuth stated: “He was in pursuit of people in a vehicle who fled. … There was a person on that porch that apparently had a weapon at some point.”
“The situation escalated significantly,” Lindenmuth added. “They went through some pretty serious things up there with federal law enforcement being sent to the area. There were several high-profile deaths, and because of that, I believe Mr. Castro is basically the one they chose to prosecute.”
Lindenmuth did not specify which incidents he referred to but noted that the incident involving Castro occurred just one week after Renee Good was fatally shot on January 7.
