Midnight Burglary in Mesquite Ends with Shootout as Resident Fights Back

Crooks never know when victims they target are armed — especially in the Lone Star State.

A man allegedly known as Amale broke into a home in Mesquite, Texas on Saturday night and quickly discovered why that was an ill-advised move.

Mesquite Police responded to a report of a shooting around 4:15 a.m. Saturday at the 2600 block of Brushwood Lane, finding the suspect outside the home with a gunshot wound who had been rendered first aid by arriving officers.

Investigators noted: “Why in the world would you break into a house in Texas of all places?”

According to police reports, residents inside the home woke up to loud banging and one resident saw an individual attempting to break in before firing a shot that struck the suspect.

The suspect was taken into custody on a charge of burglary of a habitation. He was transported by paramedics to a local hospital for treatment and later released from the hospital and transferred to the Dallas County Jail, where he is identified as Arthur Alonzo.
