TALLAHASSEE, FL — A 15-year-old male was arrested in connection with a mass shooting that wounded 11 people outside Florida A&M University’s homecoming football game on Saturday night.
According to Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell, the incident occurred at Bragg Stadium following the university event. “What should have been a weekend of celebration in our community instead became a night of fear and violence for the victims and their families,” Revell stated.
Revell said his investigation indicates that a physical altercation preceded the shooting and that “none of the victims appear to have been the intended targets” at this stage. Police believe the incident stemmed from a dispute between individuals who knew one another, though detectives now note additional arrests are possible as the investigation continues.
The teen, identified as Anthony Rivers III, will be charged as an adult with 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent. He previously faced criminal charges in the past and is being transferred from the Juvenile Assessment Center to Leon County Detention Facility.
Authorities reported at least 12 people were injured, including six children with the youngest victim aged 11 years old. Five of the 11 shot have been released from hospitals, while three remain hospitalized—two in critical condition and one described as very critical. Half of the victims were male, half female.
Leon Circuit Judge Andrew Sheeran ordered Rivers held in secure detention pending trial and granted a motion to seal the probable cause affidavit, which details the crime and the suspect’s arrest. Police also confirmed a “significant influx” of community information assisted investigators, including cellphone videos and witness tips. Revell urged residents to report any detail through the dedicated tip line (850-891-4610) or the evidence submission website.
