Nick Reiner Charged with Double Murder in Brentwood Home Following Hotel Blood Discovery

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced Tuesday that Nick Reiner has been charged with murder in the killing of his parents, famed moviemaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Reiner.

The Reiners were discovered stabbed to death Sunday afternoon in their Brentwood home. Hotel staff entering Nick Reiner’s room later that Sunday morning found the shower “full of blood” and blood on the bed.

Hochman stated two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance alleging multiple murders have been filed against Reiner. The maximum sentence for these charges is death or life in prison without parole.

According to police, Reiner used a knife in the killings but the district attorney has not disclosed details about the weapon’s recovery.

Reiner checked into the Pierside Santa Monica hotel around 4 a.m. Sunday after reportedly becoming upset at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party on Saturday. At that event, he interrupted comedian Bill Hader’s private conversation and stormed off. Witnesses described Reiner as “tweaked out” but without visible signs of violence or bloodstains.

Police arrested Reiner around 9:15 p.m. Sunday night in Exposition Park near downtown Los Angeles after conducting evidence collection at the hotel Monday.
