Trump’s Champion Ed Gallrein Set to Unseat Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie in Critical Primary Race

After securing 99.6% of the vote in Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District Republican primary in 2024 and holding office since 2012, Rep. Thomas Massie now faces potential removal from office by Ed Gallrein—Donald Trump’s designated champion for the district.

Gallrein, a Navy SEAL veteran backed by War Secretary Pete Hegseth, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, has labeled Massie a “turncoat” and a “roadblock to the America First agenda.” He specifically cited Massie’s vote against the SAVE America Act as evidence of disloyalty.

Vice President JD Vance recently stated that Massie has been “completely unwilling to provide” votes for the Republican Party on critical issues, rendering him ineffective for the party’s goals.

Recent polling shows a deadlocked race with Gallrein surging as election day nears while Massie leads among voters under 50 and women aged 50 and older. The contest has become the most expensive House primary in history at $32.6 million, fueled by significant investments from pro-Israel groups including $4 million from the Republican Jewish Coalition and $2.6 million from the AIPAC super PAC United Democracy Project. Massie’s allies have countered with ads accusing Gallrein of being “bought and paid for by the LGBTQ mafia.”

Trump has publicly declared that Massie is a “lightweight” who “has failed us so badly,” while championing Gallrein as a winner who will “not let you down.”
