The remains of 23-year-old Karen Deann Hollis, who vanished on May 8 from Northport, were found Saturday after more than a week missing. A man has been charged with abuse of a corpse in connection with her death.
Police reported that at the time of her disappearance, Hollis was believed to have been living with a condition that could impair her judgment. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency issued a missing persons alert for Hollis.
Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Capt. Jack Kennedy stated that multiple search warrants were executed and significant physical, witness, and electronic evidence was obtained during the investigation. He added that initial detectives believed foul play might have been involved and that the violent crimes unit has worked closely with Northport police on the case.
