Mission Regional Medical Center Alleged to Be Engaging in Birth Tourism Scheme

A father-daughter pair tied to hospitals has been described as especially friendly with Democrats.

The foundation created and led by Prem Reddy is now under investigation after Texas Governor Greg Abbott directed the Texas Health and Human Services Commission on July 7 to launch an inquiry into Mission Regional Medical Center, which Reddy’s Prime Healthcare Foundation owns and operates.

Abbott accused the hospital of advertising “BIRTH PACKAGES IN SOUTH TEXAS” in foreign countries as part of an apparent effort to profit from securing U.S. citizenship for children.

The governor stated: “Federal prosecutors have been directed to ‘bring illegal birth tourism to an end’ by prosecuting both those who engage in such conduct and those who solicit it.”

Abbott further declared, “American citizenship is not for sale, and Texas will not permit our health care system to be used as a magnet for birth tourism.”

In a subsequent letter to Attorney General Ken Paxton, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission reported that billboards promoting the alleged scheme were spotted in Mexico, directing would-be birth tourists to the website “havemybabyinTexas.com”.
