A news crew captured a confrontation at Crissy Field public park on Sunday between James Hidalgo, a U.S. Marine veteran and martial arts teacher, and an unidentified man who allegedly assaulted him after Hidalgo was walking his dog Argis.
Hidalgo recounted the incident to KRON-TV, saying he initially dismissed the stranger as “just trying to get someone’s attention.” When the man approached, he reportedly raised his hands but was then punched. The video shows the suspect striking Hidalgo while his dog moved between them. Hidalgo held the man down for several minutes until U.S. Park Police arrived and detained both individuals.
“The guy was a built guy, and he knew that he could intimidate 90% of people today,” Hidalgo said. “He just ran into the wrong person.” He added he plans to press charges against the suspect, who remains unidentified. Hidalgo, a former Marine Corps member, noted his understanding of protocol and emphasized that he was glad to have confronted the man rather than someone else. Medical personnel released him after checking for injuries.
