The Federal Bureau of Investigation has executed a major operation in Houston, Texas, resulting in the arrest of approximately 15 members and associates of the YNS gang.
Sources confirmed that these individuals rapped about their criminal activities and posted videos on social media platforms. Law enforcement describes these posts as “drill music,” “drill videos,” or “drill raps.”
Karlton Harris, executive director of the Forgotten Third anti-violence nonprofit, explained the purpose of such content: “It’s the flashiness, right, ‘Look at what I got.’ You may have a chain on, you show your guns in the video, you have flashy cars behind you. Nine times out of ten, the chain is fake, the cars are not theirs, and it’s just a front that they’re doing for social media, but the other individuals don’t know who are seeing that.”
Four men arrested in the operation—Jacob Barrett, Kristian Winters, Darrell Samson, and Jocquez Frye—appeared in court this week wearing orange jumpsuits and shackles. Each faces charges including using a firearm in relation to drug trafficking, conspiracy to commit robbery, and controlled substances offenses. Frye also faces an additional charge of possessing a machine gun.
The identities of the arrested individuals were revealed after their court appearances.
