Mexican National Arrested After Sexual Assault on Michigan’s Historic Mackinac Island

A Mexican national remains in custody following his identification as the suspect in a sexual assault on Mackinac Island earlier this month. According to authorities, the incident occurred around 2:15 a.m. on September 16 when the suspect forced a woman to the ground and allegedly sexually assaulted her before fleeing the scene on foot.

The victim was transported to the Mackinac Island Medical Center for treatment. Police confirmed that Carlos Adrian Fernandez De Lara Jaimez, a 30-year-old male from Mexico, was identified as the suspect later that day and arrested at the Mackinac County Jail in St. Ignace. Court records list him as “Jaimez,” though his booking photo identifies him as “Carlos Fernandez.”

Jaimez faces a felony charge of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with personal injury. He was arraigned on September 18, assessed a $100,000 cash or surety bond by Judge Beth Gibson, and is scheduled for a preliminary examination hearing next Monday. A deputy confirmed he remains in custody as of Monday afternoon, noting that surrendering his passport was one of the conditions of his bond.
