An 11-year-old boy shot and killed his mother’s boyfriend after a heated argument at their home in Philadelphia last week, according to police.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. Thursday in the 1100 block of South Peach Street. Police identified the victim as Jaimeer Jones-Walker, a 30-year-old from Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. Investigators reported that Jones-Walker had double-parked on the street before entering his girlfriend’s residence.
His girlfriend told police that Jones-Walker attacked her during the argument, which began verbally and escalated into physical confrontation. During the altercation, the boy reportedly grabbed a handgun legally registered to his mother and fired one shot, striking Jones-Walker in the face. The victim was pronounced dead at 11:59 p.m.
Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small described the situation as “verbal and possibly turned into a physical altercation.” The woman and her son remained at the scene and cooperated with police during the investigation.
Shyreea Blocker, a neighborhood resident who heard the argument, said, “It’s a shame. It shouldn’t be like that.” Gilbert Blocker, another neighbor, expressed concern about the boy’s future: “The things he’s going to suffer in his heart if he has any feelings [are] going to last him not just now but for the rest of his life.”
Philadelphia’s Office of Domestic Violence Strategies Director Azucena Ugarte noted that children exposed to home violence often face long-term emotional consequences, though they are resilient. Sources confirmed the boy is staying with another family member. No arrests have been made, and no charges have been filed.
