Los Angeles police arrested a woman on Sunday afternoon after she allegedly fired multiple gunshots into the home of pop star Rihanna while 10 individuals were inside. The incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. in the Beverly Crest neighborhood.
Chief Jim McDonnell confirmed that 35-year-old Ivanna Ortiz was booked for attempted murder and charged with one count of attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper. LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman indicated the bail amount was reduced from $10.225 million to $1.875 million following the incident.
Authorities recovered the weapon and seven casings from what police described as an “assault rifle.” Officers also discovered social media posts attributed to Ortiz, in which she accused Rihanna of attempting to kill her. One post read: “Are you there? … Say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you talking to me where I’m not at.” Another stated she was engaged in “her little music thing so she can do witchcraft.”
The LAPD traced the suspect’s vehicle using automated license plate readers and a helicopter, locating it 8 miles away at the Sherman Oaks Galleria shopping center. Ortiz was taken into custody without incident.
No one was harmed during the shooting, and McDonnell noted that all 10 individuals present were considered victims due to the number of people inside the residence at the time.
