President Donald Trump on Friday hailed a parent who intervened at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, to stop a school shooter as “a great hero.” During remarks at the White House, Trump stated, “It’s a terrible thing, but thank goodness for a man that had a gun and knew how to use it.”
The parent pursued the 16-year-old suspect inside the school Thursday afternoon after witnessing him blast through locked doors with a long firearm. The individual engaged and killed the shooter just before police arrived.
