Police report no charges have been filed following a tragic incident in Wichita, Kansas on Saturday afternoon. A 34-year-old mother was released from custody after driving a pickup truck that struck multiple people at the Stryker Sports Complex, killing two individuals: 6-year-old Cole Adrian and 35-year-old Nicholas Schafer of McPherson, Kansas, who were not related, while injuring 10 others.
Sedgwick County 911 received multiple calls reporting that a vehicle drove onto soccer fields, striking several individuals.
“What should have been a day of children playing soccer and families spending time together ended in tragedy,” police said during an ongoing investigation.
According to preliminary findings, the Chevrolet pickup was parked near the soccer fields before it moved onto one field, hitting multiple children and adults. At the time of the crash, two juveniles—both children of the driver—were inside the vehicle. Police also noted that another child of the driver was playing soccer on a different field at the complex.
