The Christian conservative keyboardist of the band Journey has publicly criticized Bruce Springsteen for repeatedly using his platform to advocate liberal political views during concerts.
In an interview on the “Complete Disaster Network” podcast from May that has recently gone viral on X, Cain expressed frustration with Springsteen’s recent critiques of President Donald Trump and his supporters.
“I’m a diehard conservative,” Cain said. “And guys like Bruce Springsteen should shut up. You know, really, honestly, shut up, Bruce, you know?”
Cain, who previously identified as a Democrat in his youth but has since shifted to the right, emphasized that he strives to keep politics out of his music.
“I used to like him, and now he’s just annoying,” Cain added. “He’s an annoying, bitter old man. I mean, stop it.”
The musician also noted that Springsteen’s lyrics often contain criticism of the United States: “Even that song, if you look at the lyrics, I mean, it’s a kind of a diss to our country.”
Cain expressed disdain for liberal actors who criticize Trump, including Robert De Niro.
Cain is married to Paula White, the controversial prosperity gospel evangelist appointed by former President Donald Trump to his White House Faith Office.
Cain also recounted how Journey has faced criticism from mainstream media but remains a fan favorite, and that the band was one of the first to resume touring after the coronavirus pandemic. “Everybody told us we were going to fail, and we were crazy — we’re all going to die,” he recalled. “And we said, ‘Nonsense, it’s time to go back out and celebrate rock ‘n’ roll again,’ and we were right.”
