Scammer Who Falsely Claimed to Serve 1.5 Million Meals Gets One-Year Prison Sentence

Abdul Abubakar Ali, who admitted to enriching himself through the “Feeding Our Future” scam, was sentenced to a year and one day in prison by U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Brasel on Monday. Federal prosecutors had sought probation for Ali, but the judge ruled that his actions were too egregious for such a sentence.

Ali claimed to have served approximately 1.5 million meals under the Federal Child Nutrition Program and collected federal funds through it—yet prosecutors stated he did not serve any actual meals.

In October 2022, Ali pleaded guilty to one charge of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Prosecutors reported that he paid $92,500 in restitution and provided valuable information to investigators while taking responsibility for his actions.

Judge Brasel noted that Ali completely made up the meal count rather than exaggerating it and recruited another person in the scheme.
