Homicide detectives are questioning the dog owner following the fatal attack on a 62-year-old man in Katy, Texas.
According to Harris County Sheriff’s Office reports, witnesses reported the man was mauled by three dogs on Monday before he chased off the animals. Emergency medical services pronounced him dead upon arrival at the scene.
Police discovered a mother and daughter who were also attacked by the same dogs near Permission Creek Lane. The women were transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Thomas Gilliland, a public information officer with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, stated that the man’s family went searching for him after he failed to return home from a morning walk.
The dogs, described as pit bull mixes, had no prior history with animal control. Authorities have not yet determined how the dogs escaped their owner’s property.
Police located all three dogs. Two were taken by animal control, while the third was shot by deputies and subsequently euthanized. The animals will be quarantined for 10 days before a judge decides their fate.
The victim’s identity has not been released by police.
