FIFA President Gianni Infantino Warns Cheap World Cup Tickets Will Be Resold for Millions

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has warned that if World Cup tickets are priced too cheaply, they will be resold at prices reaching millions of dollars.

Speaking at the Milken Institute Global Conference in Los Angeles on May 5, Infantino addressed concerns about high ticket prices for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup. He stated that he believes ticket prices must be at least somewhat expensive.

Infantino noted that news reports have shown massive ticket resale prices, sometimes exceeding millions of dollars. He added that World Cup tickets have quickly spiraled out of control and reached heights of more than $2 million.

With approximately 500 million ticket requests for the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Infantino claimed that 25% of the tickets available for the World Cup group stage can be purchased for less than $300. However, he said it is not wise to sell tickets at low prices given the massive average price of around $1,600.

“I think there are certain elements that we need to understand,” Infantino said at the conference. “We are in a market which — in which entertainment is the most developed in the world. So we have to apply market rates.”
