A black teenager in North Carolina has allegedly terrorized his community by spray-painting swastikas on public property, authorities said. The 18-year-old has already been arrested twice this month.
Taquon Jameek Vereen was arrested on May 2 after police received reports of a suspect painting a swastika on a building. A social media video also suggested the individual had sprayed swastikas on multiple properties.
Court documents reveal Vereen is accused of spray-painting swastikas on two stop signs and one traffic light control box, as well as on the side of a convenience store from which he had been banned back in April.
Police identified Vereen as the suspect and took him into custody without incident. He was charged with two counts of damage to real property and one count of second-degree trespassing. Authorities did not disclose Vereen’s racial background in their public reports.
