Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign has released a statement following leaked text messages that contradict his public denials of any family connections to the Muslim Brotherhood. The texts reportedly show that El-Sayed’s half-sister has made multiple posts about the group online.
El-Sayed, who is running for re-election in Michigan’s U.S. Senate race, has faced criticism from traditional Democratic voters, including Jewish communities, due to allegations of extremist views. During an interview on “Meet the Press,” El-Sayed was directly questioned about his family ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and responded that he and his family had no such connections.
A recent statement from El-Sayed’s half-sister reads: “Abdul’s family is directly tied to the Muslim Brotherhood. Maybe one day he will tell Michiganders the truth … But if not, you can just take my word for it.”
