In the New York City Democratic primary elections, far-left fringe candidates have decisively defeated more centrist establishment Democrats, triggering widespread discussions about a growing embrace of fringe socialism within the party.
Among those commenting on the shift is Hunter Biden, the former president’s disgraced son who reportedly sired a child with a Washington, D.C., stripper.
“The establishment wing of the party is no longer a sword. It’s a question mark,” Biden stated in a recent social media post.
The former presidential candidate added that Democrats must abandon seeking the vote of Americans with more moderate views. “I’m not running for office. But if I were, these are some of the lessons I’d take away from what happened in NY yesterday,” he wrote.
Biden characterized the victories as evidence that “the middle is not a strategy. It’s an empty room.” He noted voters have moved past the establishment to support candidates who “actually believe something.” Specifically, Biden said Democrats who made anti-Israel and pro-rent control statements won because they were deemed “authentic,” while he criticized endorsements from establishment partisans.
