A 19-year-old Florida man is facing life imprisonment after allegedly gunning down a food delivery driver during an attempted robbery earlier this month.
According to court records, on August 6 in Miami Gardens, Jabari Thomas and Demetrius Tromain Travis, a 20-year-old, tried to rob a banana pudding delivery driver at the northwest corner of 34th Street and 20300 Court.
The warrant states that Thomas entered the back seat of the victim’s vehicle and placed a gun to the driver’s head. The suspects also attempted to access the driver’s CashApp account when the victim drew his own weapon and fired.
Demetrius Tromain Travis was fatally shot in the leg, chest, and face. He was airlifted to a hospital where he died. The delivery driver remained at the scene and has not been charged.
Witnesses reported that Thomas fled the scene and ran toward a white vehicle, which later was located in Miramar. Police arrested Thomas on Wednesday without bail.
Thomas is charged with armed robbery and second-degree felony murder. Prosecutors allege Thomas is responsible for Travis’ death because it occurred during the alleged armed robbery. The suspect could face life in prison if convicted.
