Hollywood actress Katherine Heigl has faced online backlash after attending a charity event at the president’s Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida. The Wine, Women & Shoes annual fundraiser marked her first red carpet appearance in two years.
Critics accused Heigl of supporting the president due to his daughter-in-law Lara Trump’s role as a co-chair of the event. Online comments included inflammatory statements such as “Fk her and anyone attending MAGA-Lago for any reason” and accusations that she endorsed pedophilia or white supremacist groups.
In response, Heigl published a statement through Variety stating: “Animals don’t vote. The only room they don’t like is the euthanasia room at a shelter. They are completely at the mercy of us, and they have no voice of their own.” She emphasized that protecting animals is one of her greatest passions, noting she has spent years with her mother, Nancy, advocating for animal welfare through the Jason Heigl Foundation.
The event organizers reported raising $5.5 million for a no-kill animal shelter.
