New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has demanded an end to all immigration operations in his city following an alleged shooting incident in the Bronx.
According to the mayor, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents surrounded a car in the Marble Hill neighborhood and fired into it, striking a man. A 5-year-old child seated in the vehicle was unharmed.
“This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation,” Mamdani stated in his announcement. “I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city.”
The mayor also added, “I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities. Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery.”
Mamdani concluded his statement with a call to action: “Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children. Abolish ICE.”
The New York Police Department confirmed the incident occurred at approximately 4 p.m. and stated that they were not involved in the shooting and did not have any presence on scene at the time.
According to police, the man was conscious and receiving medical attention at a nearby hospital after being shot.
Video footage shows anti-ICE protesters blocking federal vehicles following the incident.
A source indicated that ICE agents were attempting to apprehend another person when the man intervened and was subsequently shot. The injuries sustained by the man are not life-threatening.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul released a statement, saying she had been briefed on the shooting and that “New Yorkers deserve to know exactly what happened and why.”
