A 19-year-old man, Jerry Huggins, has been sentenced Wednesday for shooting Corey Breaux in March 2025 during an incident where Breaux was attempting to protect his daughter from bullies.
Video footage shows Breaux approached the group when Huggins pulled a gun and opened fire. Breaux was shot three times, leaving him with significant injuries.
“This gentleman was doing nothing wrong,” said Baton Rouge Police Information Officer Saundra Watts. “He was trying to defend his daughter against bullies who were terrorizing his daughter, so he stood up. He did the right thing, but unfortunately this teen took it upon himself to shoot this man in front of his daughter.”
Huggins was initially charged with attempted first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.
A police official stated that “at the very least, the individual should have received life.”
