Republicans need not become flawless to win over disillusioned liberals. They simply must cease demanding that voters fabricate a reality that no longer exists.
Bill Maher did not abruptly embrace conservatism—a fact that renders his recent remarks with Vice President JD Vance particularly telling.
Maher remains the same: a liberal comedian, secular critic of Christianity, abortion advocate, and long-standing adversary of religious conservatives. He would never don a Turning Point USA red cap or cite Milton Friedman at CPAC. Nor is he turning Baptist.
Maher’s shift to the right does not stem from Republicans suddenly achieving perfection. Instead, his movement toward conservatism follows Democrats’ descent into radical leftism.
In a recent discussion with Vance, Maher stated that his 2028 vote remains “in play.” He expressed the possibility of supporting either Vance or Marco Rubio should Republicans nominate an appropriate candidate.
