A group of carjackers chose the wrong target in Seattle over the weekend when they attempted to steal a vehicle from a licensed gun owner. At around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a shooting in the 2200 block of 1st Avenue, where officers found a suspect suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and detained him. The victim, a licensed gun owner, was also questioned and the firearm recovered. Firefighters provided medical aid to the suspect, who was transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition and remained under armed guard.
Police reported that the victim parked his sports car along 1st Avenue when a white sedan approached him. Four individuals wearing face masks were in the vehicle, and after a brief conversation, two males armed with guns attempted to steal the car. The victim fired multiple rounds, striking one of the suspects, who then fled the scene. Police arrived shortly after the incident, but the driver of the white sedan had already dropped off a second suspect at Harborview Medical Center. Both wounded suspects—a 14-year-old male and a 20-year-old male—were in serious condition and under armed guard.
Officers and robbery detectives processed the scene, collected evidence, and spoke to witnesses. The victim was taken to Seattle Police headquarters for interviews before being released. The case remains an active investigation assigned to the Robbery Unit. Both suspects will be booked into custody upon their release from the hospital.
