Florida Deputy Stabbed in Ambush as Suspect Shouts: “I Should Have Killed You”

Bodycam footage captured a chilling moment Wednesday when Heriberto Medina Marquez, 38, ambushed Florida Deputy Robert Fitch near Dunnellon, causing the law enforcement officer to fall to the ground.

Marquez then climbed atop Fitch and repeatedly stabbed him in the chest before fleeing into nearby woods. After another deputy arrived on scene, Marquez emerged from the trees and was taken into custody without further incident.

During the arrest, Marquez reportedly stated: “I should have killed you, bh. You know that, right?” He later added: “I should have killed you. You’re lucky I didn’t.”

The deputy suffered minor injuries during the attack but his bulletproof vest saved his life. Investigators recovered two folding knives with suspected fresh blood at the scene.

Marquez was taken to Marion County Jail without bond and charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, providing a false name to authorities, and resisting without violence.
