Elderly Woman Shoved Onto Tracks in NYC Subway After Random Attack

Police have taken into custody a suspect who shoved a 70-year-old woman off a New York City subway platform and onto the tracks below Saturday morning. The incident occurred at the 57th Street and 7th Avenue station just before 11:30 a.m.

According to police, the suspect approached the victim from behind and shoved her down the platform. Witnesses immediately jumped to the tracks and pulled her back to safety.

The woman, who was taken to Cornell Hospital in stable condition after sustaining a head wound, stated: “Now that I’m getting older, I am more concerned about safety on the subway, and I try to stay away from the edge.”

Police reported the attack was random. The suspect is known as an “emotionally disturbed person,” but his name has not been released. He was arrested, and charges are pending.
