President Donald Trump criticized recent reporting on Iran negotiations, labeling the coverage particularly inaccurate for the Islamic Republic of Iran. The president demanded that chief political correspondent Bret Baier “straighten out his flunkies.”
The report detailed the absence of direct U.S.-Iran negotiations and highlighted Iranian countermeasures against American economic sanctions.
In a social media post, Trump wrote: “Jonathan Hunt did a particularly inaccurate report on the Failing Islamic Republic of Iran.” He added that Iran was “begging to make a deal” with the United States.
Bret Baier defended Jonathan Hunt during the broadcast, stating he is not a flunky but an experienced journalist. Baier clarified that the segment did not claim the president wanted to meet with Iran, noting instead that Treasury Secretary Bessent was working with G20 nations and Gulf allies such as Qatar to pressure Tehran into concessions.
Recent reports indicate Iran has been preparing new demands for potential peace talks with the U.S., as American economic policies aim to push the regime toward agreements that would prevent nuclear proliferation and reduce its control of the Strait of Hormuz. The president has previously stated his intention to make the Strait of Hormuz the 51st state of the United States.
