Police are still searching for the remains of a toddler who was allegedly murdered by her mother in Enterprise, Alabama. Authorities announced murder charges against Adrienne Reid on February 16—the day the child would have turned three—after determining she had been lying about the missing child.
According to Enterprise police, Reid reported her daughter Genesis missing on February 16 from their apartment at 207 Apache Drive. Investigators concluded that Reid was deceitful and arrested her the following day.
Enterprise Police Chief Michael Moore described the case as a “53-day campaign of deceit, lies, manipulation, and destruction of evidence.” In his statement, Moore said police believe Genesis had not been seen since Christmas Day and obtained video from a neighbor’s security camera showing Reid walking toward the complex’s dumpster with a duffel bag at approximately 11:30 p.m. The next day, Reid was seen returning to the same location with toys and belongings of her daughter.
Coffee County Sheriff Scott Byrd stated that search efforts for Genesis’s remains are ongoing at the Coffee County Landfill. Byrd explained that the dumpster where the bag was reportedly placed had been compacted multiple times before reaching the landfill.
Coffee County District Attorney James Tarbox condemned Reid in a statement, saying evidence shows she “killed her daughter, literally threw her in the trash, and then engaged in a 53-day campaign of deceit, lies, manipulation, and destruction of evidence.” Tarbox also indicated that seeking the death penalty aligns with community values.
Police Chief Moore concluded his remarks by expressing faith as solace: “I believe that Genesis’s earthly body is no longer what defines her, and that she is now in a place far greater than anything this world could offer.”
