The New Hope Community Church in Palatine, Illinois, has drawn protests from LGBTQ+ activists over messages displayed on its digital sign that reference Pride Month.
The church’s signs include phrases such as “We love you enough to tell you the truth” and “Ditch Pride, embrace humility,” which have angered protesters demanding the institution cease displaying such content.
A pastor of the church stated, “That gives us the chance to share God’s truth. I wish they’d come every day so we can have conversations.”
Paul Dombrowski of the Northwest Suburban Pride Network said, “Our goal was to let other residents of Palatine know what this church preaches and that Palatine is better than that.”
Chelsea Laliberte Barnes, a member of Liberal Moms of the Northwest Suburbs, added, “It is important to stand up for those in our community who are being marginalized and who are being ostracized clearly in this way.”
