Former DNC Candidate Samuel Ronan Disqualified From Ohio Republican Primary After Alleged Affiliation Misrepresentation

A former Democratic National Committee candidate has been disqualified from running as a Republican in Ohio’s 15th Congressional District after a voter alleged he misrepresented his party affiliation.

Samuel Ronan, who previously sought the chairmanship of the Democratic National Committee, was certified to appear on the ballot for the Republican primary election in Ohio’s 15th Congressional District in February. However, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose removed him from the race following a protest by GOP voter Mark Schare.

The dispute reached the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled Thursday that Ronan had violated Ohio law by contesting his candidacy as a Republican after claiming he had “tricked Republicans into voting for Democrats.”

According to court documents, Schare referenced Ronan’s prior remarks about manipulating Republican voters and a January 2026 Facebook post in which Ronan wrote similar statements.
