“Y’all took a part of me that I can’t get back. Like, just turn y’all selves in,” said Christopher Bickham Jr., the victim’s brother, speaking to police reports.
A 15-year-old girl returned to court Monday facing murder charges after allegedly shoving a 29-year-old man off a moving Chicago Transit Authority Red Line train near 69th Street last Monday. Police confirmed she was arrested Friday for pushing Kyle Bickham from the train along the Dan Ryan Expressway around 2:30 p.m., which caused his death when he was hit by another train after being pushed onto the third rail.
The girl appeared in court Saturday and was ordered to remain in custody following a judge’s finding of probable cause for felony counts including first-degree murder, mob action, murder by other forcible felony, and aggravated battery to a transit employee. Chicago police stated she was one of three individuals who used force during the attack, though no additional arrests have been made.
“Y’all took a part of me that I can’t get back. Like, just turn y’all selves in,” Christopher Bickham Jr. repeated, adding, “Like, I forgive y’all already.”
Kyle Bickham’s father, Christopher Bickham Sr., told police, “I wish this pain on no one. No one else. I wish that no one else has to go through this. Fix the trains. Whatever’s happening with the trains, it shouldn’t have been that easy.”
Bickham was en route home from work when he was attacked during what police described as a fight that escalated into the fatal shove. Violent incidents aboard Chicago trains have occurred before, but authorities have not yet identified specific patterns to address the issue.
