French Star Julie Tétart’s WNBA Dream Faces U.S. Political Hurdles

Julie Tétart, the 34-year-old French center who dominated the 2025-2026 Ligue 2 season with an average of 21.2 points and 20.2 rebounds per game, has spoken about her aspirations to play in the WNBA.

Tétart, who came out as transgender in October 2021, described the league as a childhood dream but noted that political barriers in the United States have made it difficult. “The league, yes. The country, no,” she stated recently, adding that she would not refuse opportunities if approached.

Her performance last season was exceptional: Tétart was the only player in the league to average over 20 points per game and her rebounds were nearly double those of the second-highest scorer.
