The Green Bay Packers have locked out media from speaking with players on Wednesday following the arrest of running back Astar.
Hobart-Lawrence police in Wisconsin responded to a disturbance complaint Saturday morning involving Packers running back and three-time Pro Bowl player Josh Jacobs. Police arrived after 8:30 a.m. to investigate what was described as a domestic issue, according to NBC26, resulting in Jacobs’ arrest and booking into the Brown County Jail.
Jacobs faces charges of battery, disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property, intimidation of a victim, and the felony charge of “strangulation and suffocation.” The NFL reported Jacobs was charged with one felony and four misdemeanor counts of assault with a bond set at $1,350. However, jail records reviewed by Blaze News indicated no bond was issued and an “mandatory court appearance” was required.
Hobart-Lawrence Police Chief Michael Renkas stated the investigation remains active. Jacobs’ attorneys, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, released a statement: “Josh vehemently denies the allegations, and this matter is in the early stages of investigation with important evidence that has not yet been made public.” They added, “We ask for fairness and restraint while the judicial process takes its course.”
The Packers confirmed they are aware of the situation but will withhold further comment. On Wednesday, the team canceled scheduled player media availability after practice, though Coach Matt LaFleur will hold his press conference as planned. NFL rules require teams to make players available at least once every three days during training camp.
Jacobs has had an outstanding career, surpassing 1,000 rushing yards in four of his first seven seasons and leading the league in rushing yards in 2022 with 1,653 yards.
