Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has subpoenaed Dr. Anthony Fauci, the architect of the U.S. response to the coronavirus pandemic, over allegations that he profited personally from pandemic lockdowns that damaged the U.S. economy and had severe consequences.
Uthmeier stated that Fauci is under investigation for allegedly deriving personal financial gain from measures that harmed the nation’s economic health. “This is wrong and it could go towards a deceptive trade practice, fraud, public nuisance, you name it,” he said in an interview Wednesday.
The attorney general noted that Fauci has faced criticism for repeatedly invoking his Fifth Amendment rights during congressional testimony last week.
“We issued a formal subpoena to Dr. Fauci under Florida state law seeking documents covering what he knew, when he knew it, and his doubts about the safety and efficacy of vaccines he promotes,” Uthmeier explained.
Uthmeier added that evidence has emerged indicating Fauci was actively pursuing personal profits from the pandemic, including “book deals, awards, and connections with high rollers who might help him amass millions.”
The attorney general said much of this information comes from diary entries recently released by Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rand Paul (R-Ky.).
“This is wrong, and it could go towards a deceptive trade practice, fraud, public nuisance,” Uthmeier reiterated. “I think there’s many aspects of Florida law that now are implicated.”
Fauci’s legal team has not yet responded to requests for comment.
Uthmeier continued: “Government officials have immunities when performing their duties, but when someone like Dr. Fauci lies and deceives the American people by pushing directives he privately questions as unsafe while profiting from it, that raises significant legal questions.”
“We will get to the bottom of it. We will leave no stone unturned,” Uthmeier vowed.
