Houston police officer Ashley Gonzalez has been relieved of duty following a viral social media video in which she used the racial slur more than 25 times.
The incident occurred after Gonzalez, who served as a Marine Corps veteran and began working for the Houston Police Department in 2024, reportedly confronted an individual attempting to steal her purse. In the video, she stated: “I fking hate ns … I don’t give a fk, n.”
Gonzalez also claimed that if a Black person called for police and she responded, she would put that person in jail.
The Houston Police Officers’ Union condemned the video in a statement on its Facebook account, stating: “In no way does the HPOU or its leadership condone or tolerate racist behavior from any of our officers.”
NAACP Houston President Bishop James Dixon similarly criticized Gonzalez’s remarks but emphasized that most law enforcement officers do not hold such views. He said: “That is a sick mindset and is violence waiting to happen. Most people in law enforcement don’t represent this ideology.”
The video quickly went viral, prompting widespread condemnation.
