A preliminary hearing to determine whether Tyler Robinson should face trial for allegedly assassinating Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk concluded on Friday with state District Judge Tony Graf now possessing a wealth of damaging evidence.
During the five-day hearing, a zoomed-in version of footage showing Robinson crawling to a “sniper’s perch” was presented in court. However, this video was not publicly broadcast because a media cameraman violated a Thursday court order by accidentally revealing an exhibit that had been prohibited from publication—a handwritten note allegedly written by Robinson for Twiggs.
While the evidence had previously appeared in a March search warrant, defense objections to the violation dominated Friday’s early proceedings. Robinson did not testify at the hearing and has entered no plea.
Robinson faces charges of aggravated murder (a capital first-degree felony), felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, committing a violent offense in the presence of a child, two counts of obstruction of justice (second-degree felonies), and two counts of witness tampering for allegedly instructing his boyfriend to delete text messages and remain silent if questioned by police.
The hearing will resume on Sept. 1, when both prosecution and defense will present final arguments to Judge Graf regarding whether Robinson should stand trial.
