Boone County law enforcement has revealed that a 36-year-old man, Shaun Webb, admitted to suffocating his 3-month-old daughter for up to 13 seconds at a time in an effort to “train her behavior,” according to police.
The incident was captured on security cameras as the mother, Carleena Webb, returned home from work on August 21 to confront her husband about the abuse. Instead of taking the child, Webb went back to work.
During interviews with officers, Shaun Webb described children as “like dogs” that require discipline through oxygen deprivation. He stated his daughter’s crying triggered him “like nails on a chalkboard.”
Webb was arrested and charged with 10 class B felony counts of criminal abuse in the first degree. Carleena Webb, who did not report the abuse to police or seek medical treatment for her daughter, was also arrested three days later and charged with first-degree criminal abuse.
Boone County Sheriff’s Major Philip Ridgel said law enforcement responded immediately: “We get to the house as quickly as we can to get those children out of that environment and certainly separated from the person who is perpetuating some pretty horrific violence against them.”
The parents’ family, who live outside the state, provided police with video evidence of the abuse.
