Man with Wheelchair Accused of Knifing Woman on Bus After Seating Dispute

A 65-year-old Florida man who uses a wheelchair has been arrested by Lauderhill Police Department after allegedly knifing a woman on a bus while she was holding her child.

The incident occurred just before 7 a.m. Monday at the 2900 block of 56th Avenue. According to police, the suspect, Willie Lester Benjamin, attempted to maneuver his wheelchair into an area occupied by the woman. When she refused to move, he ran over her feet.

Police reports indicate that Benjamin and the woman had previously argued aboard the bus about seating arrangements. The bus driver stated the dispute centered on designated wheelchair space.

As the bus approached Benjamin’s intended stop, he pulled out a black pocketknife with a blade measuring approximately four inches and lunged toward the seated woman. Benjamin was arrested shortly after the incident.
