Mike Lindell, founder and CEO of MyPillow, is now free to pursue his gubernatorial campaign in Minnesota after reaching a confidential settlement with Dominion Voting Systems over allegations regarding the 2020 election.
The lawsuit, filed by Dominion—which rebranded as Liberty Vote in 2021—sought $1.3 billion in damages against Lindell for defamation claims. In a statement to WCCO-TV, Lindell called the resolution a “big relief,” saying he can now “run for governor, win governor, and not have to have in the back of my mind a worry about a $1.3 billion lawsuit.”
The settlement, finalized five years after the initial filing, ends the case with prejudice, meaning it cannot be revisited in future litigation. Liberty Vote confirmed only that “the parties have agreed to a confidential settlement to this matter.”
Lindell, who is currently the leading Republican candidate in Minnesota’s gubernatorial race, has been ordered to pay $2.3 million to a Dominion employee and $780,000 to DHL following prior court rulings for defamation. A federal judge also found that Lindell defamed Smartmatic Voting Systems, though a determination on whether the “actual malice” standard applies remains pending.
Lindell previously issued a defiant response in January 2021 when Dominion threatened legal action. Notably, Dominion had similarly sued former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, ending that case with an undisclosed settlement in September 2025.
With the Republican Party endorsing Kendall Qualls, an Army veteran and former health care executive, the three top primary contenders are all seeking endorsement from President Donald Trump, who has stated Lindell “deserves” to be governor. Whoever wins the August 11 primary will face Sen. Amy Klobuchar in the general election.
