Oklahoma Police Arrest 11-Year-Old for Staging Fatal Shooting of Disabled Brother

Edmond, Oklahoma — Police say an 11-year-old girl admitted to fatally shooting her 15-year-old disabled brother with a small-caliber handgun at their home on September 9.

Initially, authorities believed the boy was killed by an intruder who broke in through a window wearing a black hoodie. However, investigation revealed no signs of forced entry and evidence that the scene was staged.

According to an affidavit obtained by police, the girl later confessed to the shooting. She also told investigators she felt jealous of her brother’s attention from their parents, which the family described as stemming from his disability. The parents reported four security cameras at home were turned off prior to the incident. When questioned about them, the girl denied any knowledge.

Following a search warrant, police seized an Apple iPhone, an Apple iPad, and a Samsung Digital Tablet from the home, which they believe may contain evidence related to the shooting’s motivation. The girl was booked into juvenile detention the day after the incident on charges of second-degree murder. Her defense attorney, Irven Box, indicated she will not face adult sentencing but is expected to remain in a juvenile facility or undergo treatment until she reaches 18.
