Alex Nguyen, Sen. Chuck Schumer’s communications director for seven years, has left Capitol Hill to become director of corporate communications at Salesforce.
This move comes six months after Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff apologized for suggesting President Trump should send troops into California.
In October 2025, Benioff faced backlash for comments that he would welcome the deployment of National Guard troops to San Francisco — where Salesforce is headquartered — stating, “We don’t have enough cops, so if they can be cops, I’m all for it.”
The remarks prompted board member Ron Conway to resign after reportedly telling Benioff in an email that their “values were no longer aligned.”
Benioff later retracted his comments on social media, writing: “My earlier comment came from an abundance of caution. I sincerely apologize for the concern my remarks caused.” He also clarified he no longer believed the National Guard was needed to address safety in San Francisco.
Meanwhile, Salesforce has confirmed a data breach affecting thousands of customer records through a connected third-party app. The company disputes reports of approximately 4,000 layoffs, stating any job reductions are part of a redeployment initiated in September 2025.
