After Israel launched new strikes in Southern Lebanon on Wednesday, President Donald Trump expressed concern over the escalating humanitarian crisis in the region. At the G7 summit in France earlier this week, Trump criticized Israel’s conduct in Lebanon, stating, “Too many people are being killed,” and adding that Israeli airstrikes often target apartment buildings containing non-Hezbollah residents.
According to Lebanon’s health ministry, at least 3,783 people have been killed and 11,699 injured during Israel’s campaign against Hezbollah from March 2 through June 14. The conflict has also claimed the lives of at least 28 Israeli soldiers and four Lebanese civilians in Hezbollah attacks.
The Lebanese government reported that by late April, over 21,000 homes had been destroyed and more than 40,000 housing units damaged.
Trump reiterated his criticism after Wednesday’s strikes, saying the “Lebanon piece is something we’ll have to work on a little bit” and that Israel “could do a much better job.” He also emphasized that Lebanon must achieve an end to the war.
The Trump administration has reportedly signed a digital memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, which includes 14 points aimed at ensuring the permanent termination of hostilities across multiple fronts.
