TSA agents are set to miss their second full paycheck as Delta Air Lines intensifies pressure on members of Congress to restore funding for the Transportation Security Administration amid an ongoing Department of Homeland Security shutdown.
Democratic lawmakers withheld funding for the Department of Homeland Security, resulting in extended airport security lines that have particularly affected travelers at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport — one of the world’s busiest airports and home to Delta Air Lines’ headquarters. The airport has advised air travelers to arrive at least four hours before their scheduled flights.
According to the DHS, the callout rate for TSA agents reached 41.5% on Sunday. TSA agents have not received full paychecks since February 14, with partial payments issued on February 28 and their next regular pay period missed on March 13.
Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian described the situation as “inexcusable” during remarks on March 17.
